The human heart is regulated by a small area towards the top of it, which we call the "sino-atrial node". This acts like an internal pacemaker, setting the rhythm of the heartbeat at somewhere around 70bpm on average. It does this by producing electric signals that travel down the tissues of the heart, causing its 4 chambers to contract in a perfectly synchronised manner (The ventricles (bottom 2 chambers) contract roughly 160 milliseconds after the atria (top 2 chambers)); this allows blood to be pumped out to the rest of the body.

How are circulatory and respiratory systems different?
The circulatory system is where the heart exchanges de-oxygenated blood for oxygenated blood from the lungs to go through the veins and arteries. As for the respiratory system, this is involving the lungs in exchanging carbon dioxide for oxygen, through the process called breathing. The heart and lungs depend on each other. If the lungs does not give blood its needed oxygen, then all the organs would fail, causing a horrible death, and if the heart does not keep the lungs alive, with fresh blood (that the lung gave oxygen to) then the lungs would fail, causing the heart to go into a heart attack.

The heart and lungs have a relationship that makes sure that there is sufficient supply of oxygen in the blood. The heart sends deoxygenated blood to the lungs. The blood that goes through the lungs are given oxygen. The blood becomes deoxygenated again, and it is sent back to the lungs, and the cycle goes through. This is the interaction between the heart and the lungs.
