The answer may vary depending on who you ask, but it all depends on what you do. Some people swear by aluminum bats, saying that because they can swing faster, the ball will go further. Other people, including me, prefer a wooden bat. With wooden bats, you have to put a bit of oomph behind the swing, but it still can go just as far as aluminum.

This question is very common based on the fact that major leaguers use wood, not aluminum. The reason why this is is because aluminum bats make the ball come off faster than with wood, and the players need every milisecond to react to the ball.

Why is a baseball bat a lever?

a baseball bat is a "lever" in the way that the ball comes off the bat. When the baseball makes contact with the bat, the bat gives, or bends. What causes the ball to then travel is when the bat snaps back into a straight object. Thus, the bat is, in a way, a lever.

Does a corked bat help the power of the hit?

corking makes the bat lighter so you can swing it faster therefore generating greater speed at the point of impact with the ball, transferring more speed to the ball as it leaves the bat, causing the ball to fly further (provided you don't break the bat and look like a fool - corking a bat weakens the bat as well as making it lighter).

If a ball being struck by a bat exerts a reaction force on the bat why doesn't the bat move backward?

When a ball is being struck by a bat it certainly exerts a reaction force on the bat. But the bat does not move backward because the reaction is not enough to move the bat as it is much heavier than the ball. The reaction force is felt by the person who strikes the ball with the bat through his arm. If the ball is heavier than the ball the bat will surely get the reaction force and move back.

If you swing and ball hits you is the ball live or dead?

If you swing and miss and the ball hits you, it is a strike and a live ball. If you swing and the bat makes contact with the ball and the ball hits you while you're in the batter's box, it is a foul ball and a dead ball.
