The amphitheater was for entertainment through violence (e.g. gladiatorial combats and wild animal hunts), and could hold every citizen and inhabitant of Pompeii, as well as visitors from nearby towns.

∙ 9y agoPompeii was a Roman city and, therefore, its entertainments were Roman entertainments. The most poplar one was the gladiatorial games, which were hosted in the amphitheatre (arena). Pompeii had a large amphitheatre. Chariot Racing was also very popular, but Pompeii did not have a chariot racing track (circus). Pompeii also had a theatre for drama and comedy performances and an odeon, a small theatre for singing exercises, musical shows and poetry competitions. Going to the public baths to wash, bathe do exercises and sports and have a massage was an almost daily entertainment. The ruins of Pompeii's baths are famous. The rich hosted lavish banquets with a variety of entertainments in their villas. The common entertainments of the poor were Board Games, dice and gambling.
