What kind of lizard is black with yellow spots?

[Edit]

Answer

It really depends on where you live (assuming that you found it somewhere). Where I live (Northern California), that would probably be an alligator lizard. They are fairly common.

At a quick glance, this page is informative and accurate: http://www.fresnochaffeezoo.com/animals/alligatorlizard.html

The picture on the page is very poor quality... do a google image search (or use some other search engine) for a better picture, so you can better identify the lizard you're asking about.

I apologize, as I don't have time to fully research my answer, so this answer is based on my experiences camping and from various questions people asked while I was working as a small animal specialist. If I have time and find better information, I may revise my answer.
