The BEST way to keep cut fresh flowers longer is to retrim the stems of the flowers, if in a vase and replace the water every other day. If the flowers are in foam, or centerpiece keep the foam well watered until the flowers die. Some flowers like roses need special care to keep longer then say carnations and daisies. Roses need the stems trimmed under running cool water NOT COLD and trim ends about 1/8 inch put in fresh water always cut on an angle and you can put a portion of 81mg aspirin in the water but they make a packet called flower fresh and that works better! Daisies and carnations trim ends on an angle above or below a joint and put in clean cool water when the vase starts to turn color or smell bad they should last a lot longer than roses!

You can also use salt sugar flower anything like that.

The most important thing to remember is to hold the stems under fresh water in a basin, and cut them on a slant (with a sharp knife) while they remain under water. This way your flowers' "first breath" is of the essential water they need. Then you can arrange them in a vase. Empty the water every day, and recut the stems a bit (again, under water) for longest lasting flowers. The little packets of white powder they sometimes give you with a bouquet don't really make much difference in how long your flowers will last. Keeping them in a cool place helps as well.

When you first get them, cut off a bit of the stem at the bottom before placing them in the water. Add the plant food that comes with the flowers or an aspirin. Every other day, trim the stems, dispose of any dead flowers and replace the water. Carnations and some of the roses (not red) can last for quite some time.
