That year truck requires 5W30 weight from the factory, so the roller valve train will lubricate itself.
I have read some GM. Teck reports That say in hot weather it is recommended and okay to use 10W30 weight oil. If you use heavier weight oil like 10W40, 15W30, 20W50 and so on, The valve train will not be able to lube it's self and will fail.
The 2003 Chevrolet suburban requires five quarts of oil in the motor. The oil filter should be filled with oil, when changing it.

A 2009 Chevrolet Suburban will take approximately 5 quarts of oil. The oil can be purchased at any auto parts store such as Advance Auto.

Need the engine size.
Most newer suburbans that i know of take 5w-30 but the brand of oil you use is your preference. i know my 2002 suburban takes 5w-30.
