If you are in Florida, it's called a spiny orb weaver spider. I just killed one this morning because it scared the crap out of me. So, as much as it pained me staring at tons of pictures, I had to find out what it was. I have 6 dogs, can't take chances not knowing if it was harmful. Hope this helps. :o)

well from my experience i would say most garden Spiders are yellow and black.

Sounds like a cat-face spider or Araneus gemmoides. Try looking that up to find pitures of them and see how it compares to the one you found.

I think I have found the same Spider but can't ID it on the net. It has a smooth shell with two horns, both white on the front and a yellow posterior...

it is called an orbweaver or crabshell spider. harmless,usually found in Texas area for some reason and i see where they do have different colors such as black,yellow or red.
