Why do young teens join gang?

ANY! ... not ALLteenage gang members are known for being violent, or are even violent.... i am a half white, half puerto rican girl... girly as can be, loves pink and modeling, had a lil Paris Hilton dog, and talks "white" with no ghetto slang at all... i am in a gang... not by choice.. by birth.... Both of my parents are Latin kings.. well a Latin King and a Latin Queen.... so i was born into the gang... and if i had any choice.. i would not change the way things are , i love mi Latin King/ Queen nation... and im not a violent person, ive never stolen anyting or hurt anyone... that's not what LAtin Kings are ALL about... some of us are juss in it for the family-ness atmosphere of it, and for the good of our community... some of us juss really wanna help... don't stereo type... really learn about people and even gangs before u see then as dangerous and violent!!!

not all people who join gangs have already committed a crime. some join gangs because of family problems, peer presure , family separation, a love ones death, or may because they just want to fit in with their friends or to be cool when real their messing up their life

Teens join gangs because they feel ignored at home. They cannot find any one to relate to and try finding for support somewhere else. Usually being in the streets where they know that people their own age will have their back. Meaning that they will never be alone and if someone is trying to hurt them they can have other people hurt that person. Teens join gangs to feel powerful.

Most youth who join gangs have experienced few trusting relationships outside
of their gang family. Traditional role models such as parents, grandparents,
teachers and clergy are often absent or have let youth down numerous
times through broken promises and scanty support.
