I believe it's called a tape worm. You need to get the dog to a vet. They will treat him for worms and probably give you something to give to the dog at home. It is possible for animals to die of worms if not treated. yes its a tapeworm, you can treat it with the wormers you find at your local supermarket just make sure you adjust the dose for the wieght of the dog ..the dosage isnt universal I do believe that would be a tapeworm (tapeworm segments to be exact). In any case, you should bring the dog to a veterinarian. There the dog can be tested for any other intestinal worms it may have that cannot be physically seen, and it can be treated for any and all worms with a quality dewormer on a specific schedule over a period of time. I have never heard of dewormers being available at the local supermarket, but even if they are there you shouldn't trust them.

It is a tapeworm ( segments of a tapeworm ) and it is caused by your pet eating a flea. If you find one in your dogs poo, take him to the vet (it is not expensive) my English bulldog had one and it only cost $22 for two pills and it took care of the problem.

Sound like tape worm. They can look like small pieces of rice or several inches long(nasty but the truth) Give your vet a call.Tell them what they look like.Somtimes vet will just give you a bottle of the medicine & you give it once & then again in 14 days. That cures them. You can waste alot of money from buying from stores where you might better get from vet first saves money in the long run.Its not expensive I got a bottle which did 15 cats & 5 dogs for around $15.Best Of Luck!!

I'm not sure of the actual kind. There are a few types of worms, but you need to get the dog to a vet for medication. Animals can get very sick and even die if it's not taken care of, from worms. It is pretty inexpensive to treat, but it needs to be done. May I add, who cares what kind of internal parasite it is? Get the poor thing to the vet and have it wormed. Not doing so can inhibit growth and shorten life. You might even be able get infected yourself. This is nothing to fool with. Get it taken care of. Tapeworms. They get these from ingesting a flea. The tapeworm parasite uses the flea as the main host. When the dog or cat swallows a flea (i.e while he/she is grooming), the flea dies, but the tapeworm survives and uses the dog/cat as it's host. It attaches to the inside of the intestinal tract and the small white worms you are seeing are actually called "proglottid"--segments/pieces of the tapeworm breaking off when the dog has a bowel movement. The vet can give you some medicine that will kill the tapeworm, but until you get any flea problems under control, you will continue to run the risk of your dog/cat becoming reinfested with a tapeworm.

From the description, I would guess these are tapeworms. Unless the infestation gets severe, they won't harm your dog noticeably, but they tend to make owners unhappy. To get them cleared up, you will need to take your dog to your veterinarian for a worm egg count and identification and prescription medication. While there are canine dewormers available from pet supply stores and several department stores, these medications are not effective against tape worms.

Why do old dogs have white fluid coming from their butt?

Canine anal glands especially in older dogs can get infected. Vets routinely express these glands to rid them of excess oils. If the white substance coming out of your dog has a particularly foul smell then it would be a good idea to take him to the vet for treatment.

Puppy wormed one week ago is it normal for small white worms to be present but no fecal matter?

You never mentioned what kind of worms your dog was treated. For hook and round worms an over the counter treatment may be enough. If you go to the vet they will give your dog Strongid-T, which will take care of the hook and round worms. If you are seeing white worms coming out of your dogs rectum or you see white worms in the fecal matter, your dogs has Tape worms. There is no over the counter treatment that will get rid of Tape worms. You must go to the vet who will give you a little pill to give to your dog. If your dog has tape worms you may also find tiny and I mean tiny little off white, sesame seed looking things in your dogs bedding. These are Tape worms that have crawled out of your dogs rectum and dried up and died. Sometimes this is the only evidence that a dog owner will see and wonder what the heck they are. Now you know.

Do kids get worms that look like worms that come out dogs butt?

Humans are susceptible to roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms, all of which may also infest dogs. However, the human worms and the dog worms are different species and for the most part a worm from a dog cannot infect a human, and vice versa. Humans can also get pinworms, which are not found in dogs.

My dog has been checked for worms and has had her anal glands expressed and she is still scooting her butt on the floor...WHY?

Dogs have scent glands on their butt. So it's either, she's trying to find something to wipe her butt off with, she has an itch, or she is simply marking the territory. It is most likely to be that last one.
