Charles Darwin did not think that humans evolved from monkeys. Rather, he believed, based on many years of research in the fields of Biology and comparative anatomy, that anatomically similar species such as humans, apes, and monkeys probably evolved, over a period of many thousands of years, from a common, ape-like ancestor, now extinct. Recent studies in biology and genetics, using techniques not available in Darwin's time, have confirmed and further clarified his theory. In order to gain a further understanding of Darwin's thinking, you might want to look up "Charles Darwin" and "Evolution" in a variety of encyclopedias, such as Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Darwin). High School and College textbooks of biology may also cover this topic with more or less completeness. Many fine books have also been written on this subject, including Darwin's "The Origin of Species and the Descent of Man" and the fine biographical novel, "The Origin," by Irving Stone.

Humans did not evolve directly from monkeys. Instead, humans and monkeys share a common ancestor from millions of years ago. Both humans and modern monkeys have evolved separately from this common ancestor.

No, but they share a common ancestor from many millions of years ago. You don't look much like a fly or a worm. But believe it or not, you share genes with both of them and with every other living organism. We share 36% of our DNA with fruit flies.

It depends...

Some people believe we did evolve from monkeys because humans and monkeys are the only things on the earth that have opposable thumbs... This is called evolution

Some people believe we did not eveolve from monkeys but that God created us... This is called Christianity

And some people just don't know what to believe... they are called pagens

HOPE THIS HELPS :)

Answer

Humans, monkeys and apes share a common ancestor within the mammal branch of the tree of life. Indeed, all life (all animals, plants, fungi and bacteria) shares a common ancestor.

Humans did not evolve from modern monkeys. Both share a common ancestor who lived around 30 million years ago. Humans are more closely related to the great apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans), who live a more terrestrial lifestyle. These animals do not have tails because they spend less time in the trees. This is most likely what drove their evolution in a different direction. The gibbon is a "lesser ape" that is very monkey-like in anatomy and lifestyle. They split from the proto-monkey common ancestor about 20 million years ago. They serve as a good example of what our body plan was like before we started spending more time on the ground.

Present thinking on evolution indicates that humans and monkeys share a common ancestor in the distant past.. The split between the chimpanzees and us occurred from a common ancestor some 7 million years ago. The split between monkeys and other common ancestors, one branch of which led to us, ocurred more than 25 million years ago.
