1815- Napoleon Bonaparte's army was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo, thus ending his reign as emporer of France. 1854 - Crimean War 1861 - American Civil War began with the firing on Fort Sumter. 1898 - Spanish-American War removed Spain's control on Cuba and the Philippine Islands. 1805 - Robert Fulton designed the first Steamboat in 1805 and the first practical submarine in 1807. 1835 - Samuel Colt invented and produced a revolver pistol that changed history and life in Western US. 1837 - John Deere invented the steel plow was stronger than iron plows and allowed farmers to work the soil in areas of the US that had earlier been considered unsuitable for farming. 1866 - Alfred Nobel invented dynamite which was caused such disasterous results on battle fields that he dedicated the profits to establishing the Nobel Peace Prize.
