The United States is the highest populated Western nation on earth. The country has some of, if not the most, precious agricultural assets in the world, giving the U.S.

a tremendous amount of capital to play with. Until WWI, the country's foreign policy was isolationist, and when it was finished being involved in those wars, there was no domestic damage. It is a fallacy to say the United States was not a powerful nation, perhaps the most powerful, before WWII, but when the U.S.

got involved with international affairs, it was powerful and self-sustaining

enough to leverage control over the rest of the world. It is certainly worth mentioning that the U.S.

mindset of the "American Dream" idolizes success over happiness.

This is an overly-simplistic

view, and should be taken with a grain of salt. You could write a multi-volume

research book on this. If you want to know the answer to this question, read books and scholarly articles, and don't fully trust the answer I have put above.
