It's actually pretty simple. You need high explosive, either in a sphere (implosion type) or a slug (gun type), and some form of fissile fuel; either refined uranium 235, 233, or plutonium 239. For a gun type bomb you'll also need a heavy metal tube, for the barrel. Those are the basic components of a fission bomb. For a fusion bomb you'll also need about a party balloon volume of one of two (or both) heavy isotopes of hydrogen; deuterium or tritium.

The trick is putting it together the right way, without getting yourself killed.
