Chicago, IL is not located on a bay. It is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. A bay is a part of a sea or lake extending into the land. From the map you could see that the water Chicago sits next to is not extending into the land from Lake Michigan.
Three of the Great Lakes form part of the border with Canada. They are Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Superior. (Lake Michigan doesn't touch Canada and Lake Ontario doesn't touch the US). Lake St. Claire is also on the border and sits between Lake Huron and Lake Erie on the Detroit River.
One way is to look at a map or Atlas and locate Chicago. Then look at the big blue area to its right and note that it says "Lake Michigan" on the map. This can be confirmed by going to the City of Chicago and walking east as far as you can go and confirming that you eventually reach a very large body of water. However, the latter is not proof that said body of water is Lake Michigan.
Chicago is located in northern Illinois at the southwestern tip of Lake Michigan. Chicago's present natural geography emerged from large glaciers of the Ice Age (Wisconsinan Glaciation) which carved out the modern basin of Lake Michigan. Chicago sits on the Chicago Plain, a flat plain that was once the bottom of ancestral Lake Chicago. This plain has very little topographic relief.
Chicago lies at the southwestern tip of the Michigan Lake, and is not upon the Lake itself, though in close proximity to it. The city actually sits on the Chicago Portage which links the watersheds or drainage basins of the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. Chicago is also on the navigable Mississippi River.
