Sorry but the answer 10-40 may not be correct? As we do not know what year and therefore which engine yourClio has fitted? There is an 8v and a 16v engine. Also what type of oil, regular, semi-symthectic or fully symthectic! Also how long do you leave the oil between changes? If you change it every 12000 miles as per Renault schedule use at least an semi-symthectic oil....

The owners manual for the DF7 8v actually list four categories (for eu countries) and no less than ten grades of oil!

The four category's are -15c -20c and 2 for -30c.

So lets try and make some sense of all this... You may be thinking we don't get to -30c in the UK and you may be correct. But the oil listed for these more extreme conditions are better quality oils and give better all round protection. So an ACEA A2(semi-sym )or A3 (regular multigrade) 15w-40 is fine for -15c.

From the -20c listing..

ACEA A1 (fully symthectic and highlighted as best for fuel economy!) 10w-30 or ACEA A2 10w-40.

The -30c list ACEA A1/A2/A3 0w30 0r 5w30 ( and 0W40 - 5W40 - 5w50...)

I am using a semi symthectic 5w30 and change the oil every 9000miles or once a year. The car is used for sort journeys by the wife.
