Also, the Celtic god Cernunnos (Horned One) is born on the Winter Solstice, which takes place on or near the 21st of December. Several other pagan gods have their birthday on or around this time. If anyone else can come up with a full list, feel free to improve my answer. Interestingly enough, Jesus Christ was actually born in the springtime, according to The Bible: "And it came to pass that in the sixth month (somewhere near June), Mary conceived and was with child." If we assume the usual nine-month gestation period, this would put the blessed event somewhere between February and April, and probably in March by process of elimination. So why the change? The Roman Catholic Church noticed that all those people who practiced their own back-hills (or "pagan," descended from "pagani," or "country folk") religions had a celebration in which their god was born or reborn near the Winter Solstice. Rather than fight this trend, they went with the flow and moved their own Christ Mass to the 25th, right when Mithra was born. Christmas is not a holiday that Jesus would celebrate.

This is when some Christians choose to celebrate His birth, but it is not known to be the actual date of His birth, and can be proven in the Bible NOT to be the date of His birth. For instance, the Bible says in Luke 2:8 "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night." In Israel, shepherds would not keep their sheep in the field in the dead of winter, as it is too cold to do so.
The Roman Catholic church, when trying to bring pagans into their church, "borrowed" some pagan festival days, such as December 25th, which the pagans called "Yule", and renamed them, giving them "Christian" names, which attracted many pagans to the Catholic church. This is how some modern day religious holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, became "Christian", if in name only. The Bible does not command us to celebrate the birth of Christ. The pagans celebrated "Yule" as the birthday of the sun (not Son) god.

If you do your research, the Christian Jesus is really a re-make of past Gods like Horus who was also born around December 25th, died and was resurrected according to mythology. Also, he was said to have performed miracles long before Jesus. There are many more other gods with similar stories who predate Jesus.
