Phototropic is a word to describe if the plant moves towards light sources or away from light sources. Positively phototropic means it moves towards light. Most, perhaps all, plants will grow towards a light source. Plants need light energy so they have evolved to grow in the direction of the best light. Negatively phototropic means it moves away from light. Vampires are known to be negatively phototropic.

No, the cells in a plant structure are much stronger than ordinary animal cells. The cells in the plant are in lines that go upwards, ie the stem, the combination of the strong cells and then being in lines upward keep the plant standing. The cells are also what causes the plant to follow light. Try it. Get a plant and put a lamp on one side of it, leave it for 1 hour, then move the lamp to the complete opposite side and leave for 1 hour, you will notice that the plant tilts towards the light and this movement is caused by the cell which keep the plant upright!
