There are many species of tobacco, which are all encompassed by the plant genus Nicotiana. Tobacco is cultivated similarly to other agricultural products. Seeds are sown in cold frames or hotbeds to prevent attacks from insects, and then transplanted into the fields. Tobacco is an annual crop, which is usually harvested in a large single-piece farm equipment. After harvest, tobacco is stored to allow for curing, which allow for the slow oxidation and degradation of carotenoids. This allows for the agricultural product to take on properties that are usually attributed to the "smoothness" of the smoke. Following this, tobacco is packed into its various forms of consumption which include smoking, chewing, sniffing, and so on. (Wikipedia)

Tobacco is the pulped, blended dried leaf of different types of tobacco plants.

Like any other plant, farmers plant it. Then they have to cultivate it, weed it, harvest it etc. Then the tobacco is dried and often "cured" or allowed to ferment to get a specific flavor. Then it is processed, blended, and put into whatever form that is commercially sold.

Tobacco is made from the tobacco plant. It is best grown in a warm climate and is carefully drained in fertilized soil. This rich soil is found in most southern states. You then cure tobacco for seventy to ninety days, after it is harvested. Curing tobacco involves drying sap from it. This process makes many chemical changes in the tobacco plant that improves its flavor.

Fresh tobacco has a bitter taste. It is put into storage to age. Tobacco undergoes a chemical change called fermentation. This gives tobacco a sweet flavor and produces the main addiction called Nicotine. Chewing tobacco is made from various types and grades of tobacco. Honey and licorice are added together to make it taste better.
