The answer depends on how you construct "have a job". From the Related Links below (the CIA's Factbook of 1/13/2011) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics: there were an est. 310.232 million population in 7/10, of which 154.9 million were in the work force. At an unemployment rate of 9.7% (2010 est.), 15.03 million were unemployed. The work force data excludes: those under 16 years old, in institutions, and in the military. Unemployed also include those not seeking benefits (gave up, retired, non-working spouses, etc.). Therefore, the estimate (rough) would be 310.232-139.875= 170.357 citizens not having a job. This would be 54.9% of the US population.
