Juliette Gordon Low had hearing problems. Due to improper treatment of ear infections as a girl, she lost most of the hearing in one ear. During her wedding, a piece of rice became lodged in her ear causing her to lose all the hearing in the other ear.
Juliette also had a back injury which kept her from riding horses, one of her favorite activities.
She died in 1927 from breast cancer which had metastasized (spread to other parts of her body).
