many different types of plants store food, especially plants that grow in difficult environments where the climate changes dramatically. they have to be able to build up a store of food to use (while conditions are pleasant) so that they can survive when conditions become less favorable.

plants such as succulents and cacti store food, plants growing in extreme cold also store food reserves. many seasonal bulbs store food reserves which need to last them through winter until the following spring.
