George Washington set a lot of precedent's while he was in office.

For example; in 1796, he published his Farewell Address. In it, he announced that he retired. Washington also set another important precedent at the end of his second term in 1796. In fact, he decided not to run for a third term. (by the way, it was already 1940 by the time the/this thought crossed and Presidents mind ((by that time, Washington was long gone)) ).
