Selective breeding can result in repeated transmission of deleterious genetic material, meaning the DNA code becomes more corrupt with alterations, deletions, and additions. The likely hood of chromosomal abnormalities also increases. In other words, more genetic abnormalities or diseases pop up in offspring that can result in still-births or offspring affected with a physical or mental condition for the rest of its life.

For this answer we can already look to the selective breeding experiences by both horticulturalists and livestock and domestic pet breeders. Two hazards exist, both of which have already occurred. In the Irish potato famine, farmers came to rely disproportionately on only one species of potato. When a blight came along that attacked this species, there were very few other species available which could withstand the blight and survive. Overreliance on one species therefore make the population more vulnerable to biological hazards specific to that group. The other hazard that occurs is seen with modern pet breeders. In their attempt to emphasize certain desirable traits of color or form, other traits present on similar regions of the chromosomes are unintentionally bred out of the population as a sort of reluctant "piggy-back" trait. This has resulted in known medical predispositions of some dogs to have hip dysplasia, or cats to have Heart disease. It seems that we therefore need to acknowledge the need for genetic diversity to prevent widespread epidemics within a population, which in a sense is already happening at am accelerated rate as the world population destigmatizes racial intermixing of cultures. We may have an improved ability to breed desirable traits while maintaining genes necessary to prevent morbidity by the increasing use of genetically mapping the chromosome of various species. This is also occurring at an accelerated rate due to large-scale rapid array gene sequencing methods.
