They serve the same purpose as airline terminals, but for busses. You leave your home and go to the nearest bus terminal and board a bus. Instead of taking you to your exact destination, the bus will take you to another bus terminal which is close to it, and you will leave that bus terminal and go to your destination by other means. Like airline terminals they also chairs have chairs, restrooms, snack food machines, etc. to make your wait more comfortable.

First, it can be a place to wait for the next flight for layovers, Second, a place to buy for the needs of the flight crew and the passengers and then lastly, refueling of the plane.
