Phone Interviews
After you apply for the job, the company may want to do a phone interview with you before seeing you in person. If that is the case, a representative from the company will contact you to set up a time.

If you get a phone interview with the company, be prepared to discuss in detail the different places you have traveled. If applying for a sales position with the company, you may be asked to participate in a sales scenario. When applying for any sales position, it is always good practice to do a sales roleplay on your own before the interview so you are more prepared for questions the company might ask.


In-Person Interviews
Once you get a face-to-face interview, you should be prepared for different interview processes. Each company has a different interview process, and one company may not have the same interview process every time. Some companies like to start out with a group interview in which several company representatives tell you more about the company. Whether you have a group interview, or a one-on-one interview, make sure you are very detailed and specific in your answers. Make sure you can provide detailed examples from your last job. Companies are interested in recent examples of your work. Make sure you are prepared to provide very specific examples, including dates, names, places, etc. Try to contain the examples you provide them with experiences that have happened within the last three years.

Most interview questions cover a specific time that you did such things as Multitasking, offered Exceptional Customer Service, Persuaded someone, Persevered against all odds and demonstrated attention to Detail. Tell a story - don't answer in the abstract.

Also do your research on the company. In nearly every interview you are asked what you know about the company and why you want to work for them, as well as your expectations for salary, benefits, and commission.

At this point, a company may also discuss the benefits and compensation package, but some companies wait until they offer you the position to discuss any compensation. With a sales position, a portion of your salary will be based on commission, and the company will outline the commission percentage you will receive. Most of the time, this percentage will be based on how much you actually sell once you are hired.


The Next Step
After an average of two - three personal interviews, most companies will make the decision on whether or not they want to offer you a position. However, before offering you a position, some companies will put you through a personal assessment to further gauge if you are qualified for the role. Assessments can include anything from giving you a test, having you fill out a workbook, having you answer phones, or having you assist in some capacity at that company.

If you do well in your interviews, and remain completely honest, providing detailed answers, you should do well. If you meet the company's criteria and your references check out, hopefully you will be offered the job!
