Certain subject matter is inappropriate for children, as are certain consumer products such as Alcoholic Beverages, tobacco, intoxicating drugs. the analogy of protectionism is clear, and children do not enjoy the same rights as adults in any case. There is no point in dealing with such wacko subjects as homosexuality, mindless violence where it has not coherent story line- as is the case with some Science Fiction works, by no means all, or heavy- and in some cases for many years banned from MOVIES subjects as Miscegeneation ( Race-mixing romance) - sadly some animal Cartoons are in this league, Gays and Lesbians, drug use and abuse, and curiously enough for decades Divorce was an absolute taboo for anything resembling juvenile literature- the fact soimne prominent people such as Einstein came from (Broken Homes) was supressed and the idea that divorce was anything even remotely romantic was rudely short-circuited, unlike Moving, new environments, which could be soft-toned or sugar-coated up to a point, as they are not necessarily bad circumstances- and travel is generally seen in a ( fun) light in juvenile works. Divorce was an absolute tabool. I would also include anythign resembling ( How -To_ manuals on crime or terrorist skills such as making bombs, breaking and entering etc- many comic books fell under this axe when the comics code came in in l954. Supernatural subjects were also in films and books either Don"t or Be Careful! not to abuse the risky factors here.
