Religion in Puerto Rico is predominantly Roman Catholic. However, some Catholics perform other spiritual practices along with their Catholic faith. This is true for other Christian religions in the Island as well. Some of these practices are 'Santería' (Voodoo) and 'Taino' religious practices which centered on the worship of 'cemís'. 'Cemís' are gods, spirits, or ancestors and 'Tainos' are the name of the Amerindians that inhabited the island. Other Christian religions present in the Island are Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Evangelical Christians, and Latter Day Saints. It is common for some of the people practicing these other faiths to still receive the Sacraments in the Catholic Church. Hence the duality in their practices goes across all borders of faith. There are about 3,000 people that practice Judaism. Puerto Rico has the largest Jewish community in the Caribbean.
The Catholic faith is the dominant religion.

According to the 2000 census Puerto Ricans are Christians. 75% of the population is Roman Catholic and 15% is Protestan Christian.

Other religions are also represented in Puerto Rico. Taíno religious practices have been rediscovered/reinvented to a degree by a handful of advocates. Various African religious practices have been present since the arrival of African slaves. In particular, the Yoruba beliefs of Santeria and/or Ifá, and the Kongo-derived Palo Mayombe find adherence among a few individuals who practice some form of African traditional religion.

In 2007, Islam had over 5,000 Muslims in Puerto Rico, representing about 0.10% of the population. There were eight Islamic mosques spread throughout the island. Puerto Rico is also home to the largest and richest Jewish community in the Caribbean with 3,000 Jewish inhabitants. Puerto Rico is the only Caribbean island in which the Conservative, Reform and Orthodox Jewish movements are represented

Religion in Puerto RicoYes there is religion in Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans are guarenteed freedom of religion just as the states are, and Christianity is predominant. Of the Christians, the majority are Roman Catholic with about 85 percent of Puerto Ricans claiming to be Catholic. Almost all of the major and minor protestant denominations are represented as well, particularly Pentacostals and Adventists. As for the non-christians, there are small Muslim and Jewish populations (there are 3 major mosques on the island), and some Puerto Ricans also practice Santaria, a carribean religion that originated in Cuba.

The population on San Juan is overwhelmingly Catholic, but there are dozens of other religions represented in the city. The City of San Juan, PR does not have an official religion. It is against the United States Constitution for there to be a state sanctioned religion and Puerto Rico is part of the United States.
