From 24 March to 11 June 1999, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) used it's overwhelming airpower to drive the Serbian and Montenegrin armies out of Kosovo.

NATO's bombing campaign involved1,000 aircraft. Operating primarily from airbases in Italy and American and British aircraft carriers stationed in the Adriatic Sea, NATO also used Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from fighter planes, ships, and submarines. Every NATO country participated except Greece. NATO aircraft flew 38,000+ combat missions over Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo before the Serbs and Montenegins withdrew from Kosovo.
