Bacteria and other microbes play the important role in environment of DECOMPOSERS, which act in the last stage of food chain. These microorganisms like bacteria cause the breakdown of energy rich organic compounds. These compounds come from decaying matter of plants such as leaves, or from animals waste products and dead bodies.

The microbial mediated degradation process is also called bioremedation.

Bacteria play an important role in the global ecosystem in the water and out on land as the cycle of nutrients (carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur) is completed with their work. They decompose dead plants and animals as well as animal waste which is helpful because it gets rid of the waste and releases the nutrients back into the environment. There are bacteria like the Rhizobium go through nitrogen fixation and because of their specialized metabolism they can convert the nitrogen into nitrates or nitrites and the resulting product is released into the environment. Plants take advantage of this and some have adapted so that they can house the bacteria.

bacteria come at last in food chain of every ecosystem. They work as scavangers or degraders and degrade the animal and plant wastes like their dead body and exctretory products, thus helping in food chain or element cycling in ecosystem and also keeping our surrounding clean
