Factories need power, and this is usually electricity, generated by burning fossil fuels. Any burning of fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that remains in the atmosphere, as there is too much of it for the normal carbon cycle to remove. So it builds up slowly, capturing more heat, and causing global warming.

A:Factories does not cause global warming but the gases they emit do, such as carbon monoxide and these carbon is the second greehouse gas that contribute to global warming.

A:If a factory is not using renewable energy (solar, wind, etc), then it runs on fossil fuel. Fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) release carbon dioxide which is EXTRA (from millions of years underground) and is building up in the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This build up is causing global warming and climate change.

Factories and automobiles are powered largely from burning oil and other fossil fuels. All these release carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The natural carbon cycle cannot deal with this extra CO2 which has been underground for millions of years, so it remains in the atmosphere, warming the planet.

Transport and factories rely on fossil fuels for power. Transport uses oil, largely, and factories use coal, oil or natural gas, or electricity generated by them. Combustion of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas which joins the other gases in the atmosphere to absorb the infrared waves from the warmed earth - the greenhouse effect.

The carbon emitted by fossil fuels is no recent carbon. It has been hidden away for millions of years, so it is extra to the normal carbon cycle's endeavours. It is this additionalgreenhouse gas building up that is causing global warming.

The burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in vehicles and factories releases carbon dioxide (CO2). This is a greenhouse gas which is increasing in the atmosphere causing global warming.

They don't. Scientists have established beyond any doubt that more carbon in the atmosphere does not cause increases in global warming.

Which human activity is MOST likely to be a contributing factor in global warming?

A:Generating electricity from fossil fuels is the one human activity that contributes more than any other to increased atmospheric greenhouse gas levels and is therefore considered to be the main contributing factor in global warming. Thus, any human activity that creates an increased demand for electricity is effectively contributing to global warming. Next comes motor transport, because this requires us to burn oil, one of the main fossil fuels.

Why is global warming a local and international issue?

Global warming is a local issue because the solution has to start with us as individuals and in our communities. We need to reduce our use of electricity and motor fuel, in order to help reduce the world's carbon dioxide emissions. We can take action by, for example, replacing incandescent light bulbs with high efficiency ones, by turning off appliances when not in use and by using air conditioning and home heating more sparingly. Global warming is an international issue because all governments must get together to identify and agree on urgent action to change to a carbon-neutral world economy. The time is past for free-riding and asking other countries to reduce their emissions "before" we do.

How do you prevent global warming caused by air conditioners?

Condenser heat does not contribute to global warming at a larger extent. The amount of heat thrown to the ambient includes heat removed from the closed area + the amount of motor heat. The heat energy within the room is removed & thrown to atmosphere. The additional heat thrown to atmosphere is of electrical motor heat which is not a major factor.A:Any electrical appliance contributes to global warming according to the amount of power it uses. Most of our electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). These all release long held carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. So the more powerful the air conditioner is, and the more it is running, the more it contributes to global warming.

What is to blame for increased global warming?

Actually, humans and the universe is to blame. It's us but more specifically motor vehicles, factories, fossil fuel energy, chemicals, and plastics that cannot be recycled.A:Global warming happens when the balance between greenhouse gas emission and greenhouse gas consumption tips in favor of emission. In the case of anthropogenic global warming (global warming that we humans are causing), we cause a one-two punch: First, we emit a lot of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, through combustion of fossil fuels like coal and oil in our powerplants, factories and cars. Second, we reduce the earth's ability to consume carbon dioxide when we destroy forests (which we continue to do). The earth's ecosystem can naturally consume only a portion of greenhouse gases, mainly through photosynthesis in which plants take carbon dioxide molecules out of the atmosphere, use the carbon and release free oxygen (which is not a greenhouse gas, and one we need to survive).

What are the global problems of clearing forests and increased gas emissions from factories and motor vehicles?

The main global problems of clearing forests and increased gas emissions are global warming and acid rain. The clearing of forests means additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, causing global warming. Increased gas emissions also contribute to global warming and acid rain.

What steps have been taken to reduce global warming?

World governments agree that placing a price on carbon emissions is the most effective step that can be taken to reduce global warming. Some progress has been made, but in many countries there is not the political will needed to contribute effectively to averting disaster. There has been a lot more progress at a local level, with individuals doing their bit to reduce global warming, by reducing their electricity consumption and motor vehicle usage.AnswerThe governments have signed a Kyoto agreement to help stop global warming.

How do hybrid vehicles increase global warming?

Hybrid vehicles typically run on electricity and gasoline, that is, they have batteries to run an electric motor, and they have a small petroleum engine that takes over when required. Hybrids are better than regular gasoline powered vehicles, as they emit fewer carbon emissions, especially if their batteries are charged from renewable energy. However, they burn small amounts of fossil fuel, so they do contribute to global warming.

Do hybrid cars help with global warming?

yes as long as you travel slow enough to only operate your electric motor. if you drive fast all the time you will run on your fossil fueled engine and there for you might as well own a normal vehicle.

What might happen if more gasoline - powered motor vehicles were used around the world?

It could speed up the global warming process.

What is the current global vehicle population?

The world's motor vehicle population reached 789.8 million units in 2005 (World Motor Vehicle Market Report 2007-08), and it is expected to cross the figure of 1 billion by 2011.

Why are cars and planes part of the problem of global warming?

Because of the fumes and gasses they emit. they are really bad for doing this. NASA actually reported in February that motor vehicles are the largest net contributor to global warming pollution, they increase the greenhouse effect and the suns rays make everything warmer.

How has petroleum become a major cause for global warming?

It is the combustion of petroleum which causes global warming. This is bcause petroleum is mostly made up of hydrocarbons. The combustion is given by the chemical equation: 2 C8H18 + 25 O2 -> 16 CO2 + 18 H2O. It is rather obvious now that carbon dioxide is one of the main greenhouse gases which contributes to global warming. Therefore, petroleum does not directly cause global warming. Industrial activites and motor engines which require combustion of petroleum for energy release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thus causing global warming. Hence we can establish that petroleum is an indirect cause.Read more: Does_petroleum_cause_global_warming
