it would depend on the type of usage (Truck oir auto) and the duty-cycle involved, for esxample the type of road traversed, frequency of stops, traffic and so on. it should be noted that most sports cars have manual transmissions and practically all pure-race cars do, again varying conditions implied. Trucks have incredibly complex (Gearboxes) and have for many years. a fifteen speed box with Five main shift positions and a three speed (Split) rear axle controlled by a flip-toggle switch on the gear shift ball was common on Diamond Reos in the mid-seventies. Mack had a transmission with Twenty forward speeds. in the hands of an expert, well there were certainly advantages as these were heavy-duty transmissions and were in production for a good many years. Know the Cogs that serve you best!

Is it OK to drive a automatic transmission in a low gear to save gas mileage?

Driving an Automatic in any gear other than overdrive will result in a decrease in gas mileage. Due to the fact that operating in low to achieve the same speeds would mean the engine is having to produce more power for more RPMs, resulting in more fuel consumption.

It doesn't have gas pedal problems because the standard transmission use a cable just for the clutch not for the gas pedal. That question just apply in automatic transmisiion. I hope this help

Can you save gas by coasting down hills?

Yes coasting downhill will save you fuel. However do not do this with a vehicle equipped with automatic transmission. You will damage the automatic transmission by coasting. You can do this with a manual transmission but do not shut the engine off. This would cause you to loose power steering and power brakes.

What transmission waste more gas automatic or manual?

the automatic transmission uses 2-3 gal per mile more than standard transmission when both are driven at the same rpm. the prob is that often a driver will drive the car at a higher rpm on the standard because he can control. what the engine is doing. If a driver of an automatic were to drive in second or low at a higher ground speed than drive the same size car would use more gas. So the key to best gas mileage is to drive the standard in the lowest engine speed that does not stall out the engine. When higher power is needed (uphill or passing, accelerating to a higher road speed. ) up shift to get into the higher power range of the engine. The automatic loses some power in the torque converter through slush of the fluid between the turbines. They act like big fan blades to convert the constant engine power to the varying needs of the road. hope that this helps.

Do you save more money with gas appliances or electric appliances?

Depends on what appliance it is. For stoves, you save more yearly using an electric but for dryers you save more on cost per load by using gas. I think gas is/was cheaper to power appliances and heating but with the recent rise of gas prices I think that trend is slowly reversing appliance by appliance. Electric heating has surpassed gas and is now cheaper
