A home can be dated by the countertops. Quartz is the hardest surface, and does not need the care that granite does. It is the newest "trend", and comes in many colors, and one company "mixes it with anti bacterial agents". Check it out at any company which does countertops, even Home Depot. spatters Another answer: We sell quartz as well as the other materials. For the money, solid surface is the surface that pleases most people as it ages. Stay away from the darker colors and it makes a great countertop. We offer free scratch removal for our solid surface customers, might get one request per year to fix a top. Quartz will scratch too, but the scratches are impossible to repair economically. The anti bacterial stuff is just marketing, read their disclaimers. Quartz has to be cleaned carefully to prevent damage. Look very carefully at the care and cleaning instructions on your quartz choice. If you don't follow them to the letter, the warranty is voided. Check around for local independent shops instead of the big box stores. The second issue is color change. Quartz, like many granites, is susceptable to UV damage, resulting in color change and fading. For more info go to solidsurfacealliance.org or forum.solidsurfacealliance.org
