What should you do for a hamster who was injured by his new 'roommate'? |
[Edit] |
Answer.
The only time you can keep two hamsters together, is if they were both bought at the same time, from the same place, and from the same cage, mind you, this is limited to the type of hamster you're getting.
Syrian hamsters: Can only be kept on their own, as they don't get on well with other hamsters.
Roborovski hamsters: Can be kept in same sex pairs.
Chinese hamsters: Males can be kept in pairs, however, female Chinese hamsters WILL fight for dominance as they get older.
Russian hamsters: Can be kept in same sex pairs.
If you introduce two hamsters which were NOT bought at the same time, no matter the sex, or breed, they WILL fight. It's best to keep them seperate, or one of them will end up dead.
Answer
I would move it into a separate cage. Syrian hamsters can't be kept together at all but smaller breed like dwarf hamsters can, unless they are unrelated males and they would probably fight still.

Answer
Take him to a vet-infection is a real risk. Also, hamsters are solitary and except for mating, should not live together, as they will, obviously, fight.
Answer
Hamsters will fight TO THE DEATH! Do not house them together EVER unless it is a mom and her pups or two related females. Hamsters should NEVER live together EVEN IF MATING IS DESIRED. They should be seperated after ALWAYS.
