You two are broken up...your ex still may be upset about the breakup, but he has no right to get angry with you over who you now see.
You don't have any need to apologize, other than to explain that the email was sent acidentally to him. It might help your ex move on if you two stopped contacting eachother for now and not being a part of eachother's lives.
