What should you do when a lender who states verbally by phone that partial payments will be accepted then repo'ed car anyway?

Trick question here. DID the lender accept the partial like they said? If so, they did what they said they would do. Did the lender say they wouldn't repo?? If so, can you prove it?? IF so, call a local attorney for state specific advice.

It is not a good idea. If that person does not make any payments then you are on the hook. The ownership can not be changed anyway, because it is listed as security under a registry.

Remember you are in default and the closer you get to the foreclosure date the more vulnerable you will be to the mortgagor. The lender is not ogligated to accept your payments if you do not send the full amount-- in fact if you send only a partial payment they will still have the right to foreclose on you and they have the right because you did not pay the entire amount owed-- if you don't bring the account current they are likely continue with the process and still take the house and they will keep the partial payment you sent to them because in reality-- it is owed to them anyway.
