To clean a concrete fire surround, provided it is concrete and not brick there are many concrete cleaners on the market. Your best bet is to go to a hardware store and see what they have and what they recommend. If it is brick you can use a chemical called sureclean or something like it. It almost always has to be diluted and you should always wear safety gloves and safety glasses.
