New York State (statewide):

There is NO statewide length limit for knives in the State of New York. Many specific kinds of knives are banned regardless of length, notably "switchblades" and "gravity knives," as defied in statute. There are special local laws in some jurisdictions.

Rochester:

Blades over 3" are banned.

New York City:

[I've had a lot of discussions about this lately, as a certified self defense instructor.] The law in New York City is vague, but goes something like this:

-Blade Length cannot exceed 4"*In New York City max is 4"

-Blade cannot open automatically (switch blades, etc) or with assist (spring opened, gravity or inertia knives)

-Knife must be concealed. (This means no visible aspect. No pocket clip, no handle, no nothing)

I say the law is vague, because it also dictates that a knife cannot come to a point. Yeah. (If you're looking for a knife that has a good argument for "Doesn't come to a point," check out Cherusker's Lapu Lapu Corto or LLC.)

Also, there's a difference between what's legal, and what police will arrest you for. For example, butterfly knives are technically legal in the city, but the police will have good reason to grill you on why you need to carry one. So, if the police ask why you're carrying, you better have a darn good reason. Lots of people use knives for work, or to assist in projects, those are good reasons. If you're carrying for Self Defense or because "It's my favorite" or because you're a mugger, those are not good reasons.

3 inches and under unless it is not concealed. During Hunting season the size goes up to six inches. But as long as the knife isn't concealed it could be a Katana (NOT ADVISED).

There is no law regarding knife length in Indiana. You could carry a sword around if you really wanted to, as long as you aren't planning on hurting anyone with it. It would draw a lot of attention though.

Indiana is one of the most lenient states in terms of knife laws. There are viturally no laws regarding knives except to forbid knives on school grounds. Ballistic knives are still illegal, of course. But ballistic knives are considered illegally manufactured firearms rather than knives. Throwing stars are illegal as well.

It is not legal to carry a fixed blade knife in Ohio. Even if you have a concealed handgun permit that only covers handguns not blades of any type! There is a grey area however because no government can prevent you from using primitive tools such as a knife for work and and food (campers and outdoors man fishing) so many gamble and carry a fixed blade while at work and in most cases cops will not mind. Be careful though if you have an attitude it might get you into trouble.

What size knife is legal to carry in BC?

Concealed carry under 4 inches, open carry some people say 6 inches but technicallyyou can open carry any length, even a sword. You just have to be able to justify your reason to carry it when a police officer asks you. Self defence is not considered a sufficient reason to carry any knife in Canada. Do a search on bladeforums and there'san extensive post on this subject.

Can you legally carry a knife in California?

It can be open carried, but cannot be concealed because it is a fixed blade. You will get stared at and may be harassed by police and people, but it is entirely legal. The knife must be in complete view; even a shirt or jacket hanging over the handle can be contrived as concealed.

What size knife is legal to carry in Massachusetts?

There seems to be a great deal of confusion on the subject. Many believe it to be no longer than 3" while others are still saying 5-6". The statutes on the laws themselves seem only to touch on it very vaguely, mostly saying about criminal use or intent. Realistically outside of the federal laws in place where you cant take them on school, or federal property, or airlines.. You shouldn't have any problem defending a claim against you for any size knife that isn't a switchblade. Also they cant stop you for a knife if its not of obvious intent that your going to be using it for illegal activity. I asked a police friend of mine what the laws are for concealed knife carrying in Minnesota and he informed he that 5 inches is the legal limit for a concealed knife.

Where can you get switchblades in Massachusetts?

No. In Massachusetts, it is illegal to carry a switch blade or gravity knives (such as a butterfly knife) it is 100% legal to own them however. You can also carry knives if your a minor. Also there is no size limit, whether the knife is on your person or at home. But as clarification, a switchblade is a knife that has its blade that expends out of the front or side of the handle by pressing a button or lever. You have to be touching the blade itself to fling it open, even if it is spring assisted. So basically here is a quick rundown. Anyone with no serious criminal record can carry ANY knife on there person as long as you have to touch the metal part of the blade to open it. Cheers.
