It could be any one of a number of species. We would need more information on the description. Three species that could fit are:- a Ribbon snake, a King snake or a Mangrove snake.

It cold be almost any species. African house snakes are uniform black with a white underside. Certain morphs of the California king snake are also coloured in the same way.

Most likely it would be a garter or ribbon snake. but you should never mess with a wild snake unless you are sure of the species.
