Not fully correct. Yes later once he had Power, he became evil, but he started as just a man who loved his Country, even though it was his adopted one. He gained power as he was a very good speaker, in public, though in private life, he was different. In private he did not shout or rant, as we see on the films, but spoke slowly, and also could tell a good story, with a clear Bayern accent. Later, at the height of his power, his private conversations turned into monologues, which made his visitors wish they had gone deaf, and lasted for many hours into the early morning. Visitors were unable to sneak away until he finished talking, so each visit was difficult. But the evil part came later, as he gained more Power, he started to think he was Alexander the Great, his hero! and ultimate power corrupts.
