This is generally held to be German Pastor Martin Luther, who nailed his 95 theses, a list of complaints about the activities of the Roman Catholic Church to the door of Wittenburg Cathedral in the year 1517. The main complaint was about the sale of indulgences, forgiveness for sins in exchange for money.

During this period the king of England also split from the Catholic church because he did not wish to be controlled by them in his marital affair's. The Catholic church was the victim of its own power becoming a murderous and corrupt institution as the result of lack of competition.

One event is when a catholic priest, Martin Luther, broke away from the church because of all the corruption. He disagreed with the selling of indulgences and church authority....he also disagreed with the pope's unusual power. People ended up worshipping the pope rather than The Bible and its author, God. That became a big problem and its when the protestants began to form.

Catholic church was selling Indulgences, which wasn't good. They were selling it to get money for the Catholic Church. Martin Luther, who was Monk during that time didn't like it and he told Church not to do it, but they didn't listen to him. Martin Luther posted 95 arguments against the Catholic Church on the church's door. Which was called 95 theses, and he started his own religion called Lutheranism. That is where reformation began in year 1517.

Thanks.
