The first trouble for the Titanic was that they didn't put enough life boats on the ship. This caused most of the deaths when the ship hit the iceberg. Next, it was made cheaply and therefore under par. Some of the rivets were made with steel, and some made with wrought iron. Any impurities in a wrought iron rivet can significantly weaken it. Then, they were not only trying to beat the record of largest ship, they were trying to beat the record for fastest voyage across the Atlantic. It was mainly the supreme arrogance of the builders and the people in command.
