The Gosselins attracted a lot of media attention leading up to the birth of the sextuplets. The story was on the news, and captured the attention of people across the country. Because of the interest in their story, and the Gosselin's own attempts to promote their story, they were offered a special on Discovery Health. The response was extremely positive, so the network and the Gosselins agreed to move forward with a reality show.
It is a story that would interest most everyone in the country as opposed to a local news.
