Although very similar, each college or university has a curriculum layout particular to that school. Go to www.collegeboard.com/splash/ and use their College MatchMaker search engine. You can do a search by major, name of institution, and geographical location. You will be able to obtain a list of institutions that offer your program of interest. The site will give you some background about the school and a link to their web site where you can secure the requirements for Industrial Engineering. Have patience with this site. Once you get the hang of it, it will be a very helpful tool for you.

Physics,

Chemistry

and Mathematics and statistics

are the primary subjects required to study engineering...

Engineering, much like other science, is a broad discipline which is often broken down into several sub-disciplines. These disciplines concern themselves with differing areas of engineering work. Although initially an engineer will be trained in a specific discipline, throughout an engineer's career the engineer may become multi-disciplined, having worked in several of the outlined areas. Historically the main Branches of Engineering are categorized as follows:

  • Aerospace engineering - The design of aircraft, spacecraft and related topics.

  • Chemical engineering - The exploitation of chemical principles in order to carry out large scalechemical process, as well as designing new specialty materials and fuels.

  • Civil engineering - The design and construction of public and private works, such as infrastructure(roads, railways, water supply and treatment etc.), bridges and buildings.

  • Electrical engineering - a very broad area that may encompass the design and study of various electrical & electronic systems, such as electrical circuits, generators, motors,electromagnetic/electromechanical devices, electronic devices, electronic circuits, optical fibers, optoelectronic devices, computer systems, telecommunications.

  • Mechanical engineering - The design of physical or mechanical systems, such as engines, powertrains, kinematic chains, vacuum technology, and vibration isolation equipment.

What is the difference between industrial design and engineering?

There is quite a difference between industrial design and design engineering. Industrial design is an applied art where the usability of products can be improved. Design engineering is a discipline that creates and transforms ideas to satisfy the requirements of a customer.

What are subjects of mechanical engineering?

Well the Mechanical Engineering course mainly include; 1.Thermodynamics 2.Calculus 3.Mechanics ( Statics + Dynamics ) 4.Fluid Mechanics 5.Mechanics of Materials 6.Theory Of Machines 7.Material Sciences 8.Drawings, including some software also 9.Basic knowledge of Electrical Engineering and programming All the above subjects have Labs as well ... Means some practical demonstration These are basic subjects. Not all as there are many advanced subjects too but they are linked to these basic subjects Courses become more specific in final year of engineering e.g if you are more interested in thermodynamics then you may prefer to study Internal combustion Engines or HVAC
