German System of GovernmentGermany is federal republic and a democracy. At the national levels it has two chambers. The lower chamber - which is the more important for many purposes - is elected partly on a 'first past the post system' and partly by proportional respresentation. It's generally considered a very fair electoral system.

The country consists of sixteen states, which all enjoy a high degree of autonomy.
The current government of Germany is a democratic one. It is headed by a president and a chancellor who oversee the parliament.

Germany is a democracy and a federal republic with sixteen states.

At the national (federal) level Germany has a two-chamber parliamentary democracy elected largely on a system of proportional representation.
It is a Federal Parliamentary Constitutional Republic.
Germany's government system is a federal parliamentary republic. Germany's government is a representative, parliamentary democracy and a federal republic consisting of 16 states.

The parliament consists of two chambers, the Bundestagwhich is directly elected every four years, and the Bundesrat which is made up of representatives from the 16 state governments.

The government is formed by the party or coalition that has the majority of votes in the Bundestag. It is headed be the Bundeskanzler (Chancellor) and a cabinet of ministers.

The Bundespräsident (President) has a mostly representative and ceremonial function, although he can dissolve the parliament when the chancellor fails a no-confidence vote. He is elected every five years by the Bundestag and state representatives.
