A slice of a chart can be "exploded" out of it. An exploded slice is separate from the main part of the chart. An exploded pie chart has all the slices separated.
An exploded slice in a pie chart is a slice of the chart pulled away to empasize a data point.An "exploded" slice is one that has been made to "pop out" of the pie, in a way, moving the slice away from the centre of the chart in order to offset it. It provides visual emphasis.

Click on the slice once. It will select the chart. Then click on the slice once again. The slice will then be selected.
