Toxicity depend on the acute amount and rate of exposure, it can't stated exactly how long. For instance, LD50 of Ethylene Glycol (an antifreeze) is 1500 - 4000 mg/kg (Human - Rat) assume a human of 70 kg weight, the lethat dose is then approximately 105 g or around 100 ml. If he drink such potion of ethylene glycol, he might die within hour but if he drink it up at 10 ml dose per hr it must take more than 12 hr to his death while he still have a chance of 50% survival since LD50 measure the death of 50% of population.

It also need to accounted for body capacity to handle the toxic substance. Immunity may varied greatly from person to person. Continuous exposure to dilute toxic may not cause any observable problem if it is within capacity of the body to destroy or excrete out the toxin.

.If you think that your dog has drank antifreeze though, you should take it to the vets immediatly , just in case.

More Info

The first signs of severe antifreeze poisoning takes about 20 minutes to show up. Your dog will stumble around and act as if it has been drinking alcohol. It takes very little of the antifreeze to poison a medium size dog. It will vomit, stagger around confused and disoriented. These symptoms will last up to a few hours and then the dog will appear to be getting better. This is not the case and what you will have witnessed is only stage one of canine antifreeze poisoning. The first few minutes and hours are the stage you need to render first aid, seek veterinarian advise and assistance for your pet.

Before stage two happens you need to induce vomiting and save the vomit for the vet who will treat the dog with activated charcoal.

Stage two Of anti freeze poisoning involves the internal organs of your dog. The dog will get diarrhea possibly a day or two after stage one. The kidneys, liver and other organs will begin to shut down as they try to metabolize the poison and begins to convulse and go unconscious.

Inducing vomiting in a dog.

Use Hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting in dogs. Hydrogen peroxide is available at most grocery and drug stores or even from a beautician/barber shop.

Use a syringe or even a spoon to pour this down the dogs throat at approximately 3 cc or 1/2 teaspoon for every 20lbs your dog weighs. Wait ten minutes and if the dog fails to vomit then repeat. Do not repeat a third time, take the dog to a vet right away.

It depends on the size of dog and the amount of antifreeze consumed but likely within 24 hours. It is a painful and frightening way to die. CALL YOUR VET if your dog has consumed antifreeze.
