check for spark first by holding a plug lead end 1/4 inch away from an earth crank engine , you should feel and see a blue spark. if ok ,remove plugs.itll dry itseft out in half an hour. refit plugs and try again..

To start a flooded engine put the accerlator on the floor do NT pump, and start kicking it over. if it gives you a realy hard time and to save your battery, give it a rest for 10 minutes then try again.

Do this to start a flooded engine:

1. Remove the fuel injector fuse (check your owner's manual-it's located in the fuse box under the hood or in the dash)

2. Turn your ignition. It'll rev for a few seconds and then stop. Wait a minute, then turn it again. (don't turn and hold longer than 10seconds, it'll drain the battery). This step apparently dries out the gas-flooded engine

3. Put the fuel injector fuse back

4. Turn on the ignition. The car should now start.

water damage, engine wise if water got into the pistions and you try and start it it will blow out your pistons. This is because the pistons are made to compress a GAS-feul/air mixture, and liquids do not compress, creating extreme pressure which the piston rods can not handdle. So bassicly if car was in flood take engine apart before trying to start put new gaskets slap it back together should be fine. Or the slightly simpler way is to vaccum the watter out of the cylinders threw the spark plug holes, and MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WATER IN YOUR INTAKE!!! Also if it was salt water and was not cleaned after incident, check grounds on chasis for corrotion.

If water got into the engine, there is a good chance it is ruined, the water would cool the cylinders and pistons causing warping. Same effect could be from the engine cooling off too fast by entering a pond. Chances are if water got into the engine, it is gone!

If it is fuel inj. : wait a bit, then hold the pedal to the floor while trying to start it. Don't hold key on too long. If not, unplug the fuse that powers the inj. or unplug the harness to each inj. Then try to start it to burn all the fuel out of the comb. chamber. or.. remove the plugs and burn off the excess gas on the tips so they are dry. Use caution here!

Make sure the car is in neutral if it's a manual, park if it's an automatic. Floor the accelerator while you try to start it.

What happens when too much fuel gets into combustion chamber?

The engine "floods." With most cars, a flooded engine will not start. The general way to start a flooded engine is to "crank" it while holding the "gas" pedal all the way to the floor for 5-10 seconds. (Just hold it there, don't move it.) This will often clear the excess gas from the combustion chamber.

Fixing flooded engine?

I had problems on occasion with my first car (1979 Pontiac Firebird) having the engine flooded. (When starting, I "pumped" the gas alot, quite often "flooding the engine".) Naturally, a flooded engine is (darned near) impossible to start. But the "quick fix" I found was to hold the pedal to the floor while turning the ignition. It was eventually able to start and burn the excess gas. Note: This trick only works on carbureted models. So in nutshell: Floor it, turn the ignition. (And try not to pump the gas so much before you start it next time!!!) -Ric

How can i fix my 94 Mazda protege got flooded and cranks but won't start?

Flooded in the river or flooded by gas? Any "check engine lights"? Full gas pedal depression is the normal way to clear gas flooding or first remove the spark plugs and blow out the excess gas.

What do you do when you have flooded your fuel injected engine?

If your engine becomes flooded it can be cleared by opening the accelerator to the full throttle position. When the throttle is open all the way and the engine rpm is less than 400 the pcm will close the fuel injectors while the engine is turning over in order to clear excess fuel. When the accelerator is reduced to below about 75 percent the pcm will return to start mode.

What do you do if you flood your engine trying to start your 2000 Chevy cavalier i think the engine may be flooded. it cranks when i try to start it but with no start.?

Let it set for about 2 hours or push the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it there while turning the engine over. Rarely do fuel injected engines flood. If they do then something is wrong with the firing system.
