What to do with a 5 year old who throws fits every morning when getting dressed for school?

Answer

First you should take your five year old to a child psychologist to try and see why your child refuses to go to school. They may be fearful of their peers or have separation anxiety. Many children go through this. If the psychologist feels the child is going through the norm then tell your child they ARE going to school and they are going the way they are dressed (and that means even if they are in PJ bottoms with T-shirt on top.) It won't take long for them to get the message (their peers will see to that.)

This is not uncommon at all. I am sure by now you have asked your five year old why they don't want to go to school and you'll get 'because I don't want too.' This answer isn't proposed to you to make you go crazy, but to a 5 year old they just simply can't understand their own emotions. This is a time for mom and dad to teach their child the learning curves of life to make them a complete and independent person as they grow up.
