You should talk to your veterinarian about this if you weren't given medications at the time you picked up your dog. Veterinarians recognize that surgery results in pain for several days at the incision site and are pretty good about prescribing adequate pain medication for these patients. If you got nothing, ask your veterinarian for a prescription to help your dog through the next several days.

You should talk to your veterinarian about a safe pain medication for your dog while she is recovering from her spay surgery. Whatever you do, do NOT give your dog any medications that you would use (Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, aspirin, etc.). These medications are very toxic to dogs, and you could cause your dog to die from taking them.

This varies from hospital to hospital. Ours uses Rimadyl for the dogs, and Buprenorphine for the cats.
