Most horses will wear boots of some sort, wether they be trucking boots floating boots or travell badages, Some will have bell boots on.
Some will wear either a cooler rug to keep them cool or a light sheet to keep there back warm, Some will wear a poll guard which goes on there head to help stop any damage if the horse should hit its head,
and some will wear a tail wrap to stop the rubbing f the tail hairs.
Were your riding clothes including boots and a safety helmet. If the weather is on the warm side wear light colored cotton and sun block. If it's cool make sure you have a sweatshirt or lightweight jacket.
For a beginner, if you aren't planning on participating in shows but would like to ride for pleasure, then long pants are a must. If you go to your local equestrian shop, you can buy some special horseback riding pants, called jodhpurs or breeches. These pants are made for riding. If you don't plan on buying anything new, then jeans work fine. I prefer skinny jeans, because unless you tuck them into your boots, wide-leg jeans may slide up your leg, but they do work. You must also have a pair of boots with a heel that is 1/2 to 1 inch tall, so your feet don't slip out of your stirrup. You can buy a pair of equestrian boots at an equestrian shop. They come in many different styles. If you aren't riding in a show, then it doesn't matter what shirt you are wearing. Just make sure you don't mind getting it dirty. Last, but not least, you need a good ASTM/SEI certified equestrian helmet to protect your head from falls. For shows, you need jodhpurs or breeches, a rat-catcher shirt, riding boots, and a riding jacket. The showing attire will vary depending on your discipline.

7 out of 8 do not wear a helmet in the USA.
By mustangs I assume you mean wild horses. No, only domesticated horses SOMETIMES wear horse shoes; it is not a requirement that they wear shoes. Two of my horses do not wear shoes and the other one only wears them on his front feet for orthopedic reasons.
The age of a horse affects the speed of the horse because like a human with age the body has experienced wear, and does not repair itself as well.

Horses wear horse shoes on the bottom of their hoofs.
The horse camp that is offered through Shamineau Ministries does seem to be worth the money. The camp includes ranch hand or cowboy experience including riding, roping, and moving cattle. The cost varies depending on the chosen experience, but seems to be reasonable.
